Ali Can

Ali Can is an Essen-based social activist and advocate for immigrant and refugee communities whose work aims to create a more inclusive, accepting, and just society. His initiatives have included the creation of the “Hotline für besorgte Bürger” and the #MeTwo campaign on Twitter, which amplified the voices of people of color from hyphenated backgrounds who wished to reflect on the exclusion and discrimination they faced in their daily lives. His first book Mehr als eine Heimat: Wie ich Deutschsein neu definiere, from which the following text is excerpted, was published by Duden Press in 2019.
